26 Spectacular Things To Do In Philadelphia This Week, August 6-12

The first full week of August brings cultural celebrations, dining deals, hotly anticipated neighborhood events and more to Philadelphia.

The epic Philly Free Streets returns on Saturday to provide walkers, runners and bikers with five vehicle-free hours on North Broad Street between City Hall and Erie Avenue. Now in its third year, the beloved event highlights Philadelphia’s walkability and promotes active transportation alternatives while also showcasing the vibrancy of the neighborhoods the route runs through.

Over in Kensington, the Night Market — The Food Trust’s popular four-times-a-year street-food festival — fills the intersection at Frankford Avenue and York Street on Thursday with food trucks, live music and endless evening entertainment.

Speaking of evening entertainment, tons of outdoor movie nights take place this week. Catch popular films like Silver Linings Playbook, Black Panther, Ready Player One and Back to the Future at different venues citywide.

Other event highlights this week include Jamaica’s 56th Independence Celebrations & Tribute to Bob Marley at the Big Yard Entertainment Complex in Southwest Philly, the Peach Festival at Peddler’s Village, the pop-up beach on North Broad Street and the start of the annual Night Out Restaurant Week.
