Weekend Picks: Army-Navy Game, The Nutcracker, Holiday Markets And More

Happy December, Philadelphia! The first weekend of the month is packed with events everyone can enjoy, with a mix of holiday festivities and tons of other goings-on.

One of the most anticipated sporting events of the season, the Army-Navy Game, takes place on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field as the Army Black Knights take on the Navy Midshipmen in this epic collegiate rivalry, now in its 119th year.

Elsewhere, Philly celebrates the holidays all weekend long with music, tastings and an ice bar at A Very Philly Christmas in Fairmount Park’s historic houses as well as the Pennsylvania Ballet’s opening performances of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker at The Academy of Music. And Elmwood Park Zoo’s inaugural Wild Lights display welcomes Santa (Saturday and Sunday) and lights the menorah (Sunday).

This weekend is also the perfect time to sneak in some holiday shopping. Shops around the city offer First Friday deals, alongside events like Tango lessons and magazine launches. And several pop-up markets sell handmade wares and crafts from local vendors, including the Crafty Balboa Holiday Market (Saturday) and the Punk Rock Flea Market (Saturday and Sunday).

Give yourself extra time to explore Philly this weekend by booking the Visit Philly Overnight Hotel Package, valued up to $218.
