Weekend Picks: Marvel Superheroes, Sakura Sunday, Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival And More

Philly is buzzing this mid-April weekend, which promises new exhibitions, major festivals and superb theater and dance performances.

Superheros descend on the city starting on Saturday with the opening of the highly anticipated Marvel exhibit at The Franklin Institute. Visitors can check out costumes, movie props, life-size characters and more from their favorite comics and movies.

The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia wraps up this weekend with two hallmark events: the 10K and 5K run through Fairmount Park’s blooming pink trees (Saturday) and the day-long Sakura Sunday festival celebrating Japanese culture with three stages of music, dance and martial arts performances.

Manayunk welcomes back its twice-a-year StrEAT Food Festival, when nearly 100 food trucks and gourmet vendors line Main Street for a day of alfresco dining on Sunday.

And Philly stages are full all weekend long. Broadway Philadelphia presents Anastasia at the Academy of Music; at the Kimmel Center, The Philly POPS pay tribute to Cole Porter; PHILADANCO blends modern and African-inspired performances; and Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers debut new work at Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
